Circle dance rhythms in polyphonic music?

Now interested in how this Sinfonia could explore or even connect popular with polyphonic/sacred.

Just found out that a carol is derived from carole (Old French), a circle dance. Popular as dance songs from 1150-1350. Became processional songs, and then to accompany religious mystery plays. So  modern English usage is now dominated by the Christmas carol but wasn't always.

Dance as primal aspect of music - the body responding to the beats and rhythms of dance even in complex music.
