The lavender seller
Enjoying working on this section of my Sinfonia, which is based on the in nomine technique pioneered by Christopher Tye, and others. Here I am quoting the song of a lavender seller in London on 2 November 1938, specially recorded by the BBC.* I quite like the splashes of imaginary car horn sounds I've added (the triads, which run along to the tune of a chromatic series), as a nod towards a more recent 'urban' environment (Tye's original in nomine for viols quoted the sounds of town cryers in London some time before c.1570).
